A Good Day at Gideons

Charles L. Gideons  Elementary has a new principal!

Principal Berger says that his theme for the 2014-2015 school year is, ‘A community based- quality driven- student centered school.’   He told his parents earlier this summer that ‘each family in this community has its own particular interests. Each parent is the personal cheerleader for his or her child.’  He said that our area of unified common interest is the students of Gideons Elementary School.

His message to parents encouraged them to take ownership of their child’s academic success and to work collaboratively with their child’s teacher.

We had a great visit at Gideons.  The students and teachers were connecting well with one another and the school seemed to be off to a good start for the new school year.

Last fall,  Charles L. Gideons Elementary received a renovated parent center and media center, sponsored by Target Corp. and The Heart of America Foundation. The school now houses 2,000 new books and several new iPads.  Within weeks, the school also received a state-of-the-art fitness center from The National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Council.   Students have put both the books and the gym equipment to good use.

Students at Gideons also have the opportunity each year to meet business leaders from around Atlanta during College and Career day.  Past guest speakers have included doctors, musicians, community leaders and elected officials.
